Turn On Two-Factor Authentication

Your password needs a partner—in the form of two-factor authentication! With two-factor authentication (2FA), anyone trying to log in as you must provide two proofs of ID:

  • Something you know, such as your password.
  • Something you have, such as a passcode, a phone, or even a mobile app.

U-M uses Duo two-factor authentication for login security to protect the university and you. Many U-M systems automatically require two-factor authentication. Optionally, you can add this protection to all your personal information behind the U-M Weblogin page, as well as to many types of personal accounts outside of U-M.

Turn It On for U-M Weblogin

Turn on two-factor for Weblogin to protect your personal information when logging in to services via the Weblogin page, including Wolverine Access, U-M Google, and more.

Turn It On for Personal Accounts Outside of U-M

Many popular services and websites, including Facebook and Snapchat, offer two-factor authentication. Turn it on to protect your personal information and accounts.

Instructions Vary by Service

Two-factor goes by many different names—such as two-step verification, login approval, login verification, and so on—but they all protect your information and accounts.

Duo May Be an Option

If you already use the Duo Mobile App for two-factor authentication at U-M, you might also be able to use it with your personal non-university accounts.

  • If a service mentions Google Authenticator, the Duo Mobile app can be used in its place.
  • Websites that allow you to use Duo will display a QR code you can scan with the Duo Mobile app to get started.
