Email Verification Phishing Attempt

Phishing attempts have been circulating within U-M users with subject lines like the following:

"VERIFY YOUR umich.edu EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW"
“VERIFY YOUR UMFLINT EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW”
“UMICH.EDU SUPPORT TEAM”
“DEAR UMICH.EDU WEBMAIL SUBSCRIBERS”

These emails ask users to verify their email account before it expires. No responsible organization will ask you to divulge your password. It is important to not respond to these email requests. By doing so, you could put your account at risk, or someone could open new accounts with your identity.

If you have already replied with your password, please contact the User Advocate at abuse@umich.edu. You should also change your password immediately. For more information from UM IT Central Services (ITCS) on changing your password, copy this address into your browser: www.itd.umich.edu/itcsdocs/r1162/

For more information from the Federal Trade Commission regarding these types of scams, copy this address into your browser: www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt127.shtm.
